Washington D.C., USA – Democratic lawmaker was removed from the House chamber on Tuesday night shortly after US President began delivering his State of the Union address at the US Capitol.
Green, who represents Texas’ 9th Congressional District, was escorted out while holding a sign that read, “Black People Aren’t Apes.” The protest followed controversy surrounding a video previously shared by Trump on Truth Social, which depicted former President and former First Lady with imagery widely criticised as racially offensive. The post triggered backlash from several lawmakers and civil rights advocates who described it as inappropriate and divisive.
According to reports monitored by Okay News, House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered Green’s removal after he refused to sit down when called to order. The incident marks the second time the congressman has been removed during a State of the Union address. Green has previously been an outspoken critic of Trump and had led impeachment efforts against him during his first term.
The development has further heightened political tensions in the US, with reactions continuing from both Democratic and Republican lawmakers.
