Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator representing Sokoto South has expressed concern over the involvement of the United States in recent airstrike operations in Nigeria, citing the mixed outcomes of similar US-led interventions in other parts of the world.
Speaking on ARISE TV, Tambuwal said history shows that such collaborations have often failed to deliver lasting solutions.
Okay News reports that while acknowledging the need for international cooperation in combating terrorism, Tambuwal urged Nigerian authorities to act with caution and ensure that no hidden agendas are pursued under the guise of counterterrorism efforts. He stressed that past US operations elsewhere should serve as a lesson for Nigeria to remain vigilant.
Tambuwal also emphasized that the fight against terrorism in Nigeria should not be framed as a religious or ethnic conflict but as a national security issue. According to him, assistance may come from “unexpected quarters,” but Nigeria must ensure that its sovereignty and long-term interests are fully protected.
