Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom, has expressed her support for the recent United States military operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
During a recent broadcast, she described the forceful removal of Maduro as a “morally right” decision, characterizing the South American nation as a “gangster state” under his long-standing rule.
Okay News reports that Badenoch’s stance is deeply influenced by her childhood in Nigeria, where she lived under several military dictatorships between 1980 and 1996.
She explained that experiencing authoritarian governance firsthand allowed her to understand the necessity of removing leaders who suppress their citizens, even when the specific legal procedures for such international interventions are still being debated.
Nicolas Maduro is currently in New York facing federal charges involving drug trafficking and weapons offenses, allegations to which he has pleaded not guilty. Badenoch noted that while the “extraordinary” nature of the U.S. action has sparked global conversation, the human impact of living under such a regime justifies the outcome from a moral standpoint.
