Renowned American R&B icon, Usher, has opened up about his recent collaboration with Nigerian artists Burna Boy and Pheelz, shedding light on his desire to immerse himself in the vibrant Afrobeats scene.

In a recent interview with Apple Music, Usher discussed his foray into Afrobeats, highlighting the influence of Nigerian culture on his latest album.

The Grammy-winning artist shared insights into his decision to collaborate with Burna Boy and Pheelz, emphasizing his admiration for the genre’s popularity and the unique sound it brings to the global music landscape.

Usher’s latest album features Pheelz in the lead song, ‘Ruin,’ and Burna Boy in the title track, ‘Homecoming,’ marking his venture into the Afrobeats genre.

Speaking about his collaboration with the Nigerian artists, Usher expressed his enthusiasm for incorporating African elements into his music, stating, “I am all about collaboration and bringing African, you know, Nigerian culture to my own world.”

The acclaimed singer-songwriter further elaborated on the creative process behind the collaboration, attributing the synergy between Pheelz and Burna Boy to the success of the tracks.

“I picked up things when I was in Ghana. I picked up things when I was in Nigeria. And working with Pheelz, he created the record [‘Homecoming’]. I just felt that Burna Boy would take it to a different level of credibility,” Usher explained.

Acknowledging Burna Boy’s artistry and impact on the global music scene, Usher expressed his admiration for the Nigerian superstar, noting that Burna Boy’s involvement enhanced the song’s authenticity and resonance.

“I really do enjoy him as an artist. I just felt that this song would only be lifted better if he was part of it,” Usher added
