Valentine’s Day is here, and Nigerian music fans are gearing up to express their love through music.

According to new data from Spotify, Nigerians are turning to classic love songs from both local and global artists to add to their playlists.

John Legend’s “All Of Me” is the most playlisted love song in Nigeria and around the world. It’s not the only John Legend hit to feature on the list, as he also shares a top 10 position with Meghan Trainor on “Like I’m Gonna Lose You”.

Ed Sheeran, who occupies the top spot as the most playlisted love songs artist globally, has two songs in Nigeria’s top 10, “Perfect” and “Thinking Out Loud”.

British singer Adele is also a popular choice among Nigerians, with her song “Make You Feel My Love” being a favourite pick.

Social media trends and movie fandom also have an impact on Nigerians’ favourite love songs, as Ruth B’s “Dandelions” made the list following a viral run on TikTok, while “Rewrite The Stars” by Zendaya and Zac Efron from The Greatest Showman soundtrack is just outside the top 10.

Nigerian icons D’Banj and Banky W are also represented on the list with their classic hits “Fall In Love” and “Yes/No” respectively.

More recent Afrobeats favourites like Runtown’s “Mad Over You” and Simi’s “Joromi” also feature among Nigerians’ most playlisted love songs, showing that Nigerians love to express their love in familiar language.

As the saying goes, music is the language of love, and on Valentine’s Day, Nigerians are making sure their playlists speak volumes.
