Veteran Nigerian actor Mr. Davis Offor, widely known for his iconic role as “Clarus” in the legendary television comedy sitcom The New Masquerade, has passed away at the age of 85.
Okay News reports that his death was confirmed on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, by his long-time colleague Mr. Tony Akposheri, who played the character “Zaki” in the same series. In a poignant tribute shared on his Facebook page, Akposheri reflected on their long-standing friendship, noting that they had ushered in the New Year together just months prior.
“Davis Offor, fondly known as Clarus from New Masquerade, is gone,” Akposheri wrote. “You were more than a familiar face on screen. You were a friend, a brother, a man with warmth, humour, and a presence that could light up any space. Rest well, my friend. You came, you gave joy, you made your mark, and you will never be forgotten.”
The New Masquerade, which aired on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) from the 1980s through the mid-1990s, was one of Nigeria’s most beloved sitcoms. Offor’s character, Clarus, was famously paired with the houseboy character “Gringory” (played by the late James Iroha), serving the household of the formidable Chief Zebrudaya Okoroigwe Nwogbo alias 4:30.
Offor’s passing marks the departure of another pioneer of the Nigerian comedy and television industry, leaving behind a legacy of laughter that spanned generations. Details regarding his funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by his family in the coming days.
