VP Shettima Arrives in Lafia on State Visit to Commission Projects

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

LAFIA, Nigeria — Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Monday afternoon, June 22, 2026, for a high-profile, one-day official working visit to inaugurate vital urban road networks and critical infrastructure assets.

The state visit marks a major consolidation of federal-state infrastructural partnerships designed to mitigate regional ecological challenges and streamline urban logistics.

Okay News reports that the central highlight of the visit is the formal commissioning of the newly constructed Kilema Bridge. The strategic bridge is one of three landmark engineering structures executed by Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration utilizing the ₦3 billion federal flood intervention fund released by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide permanent, climate-resilient solutions to the perennial seasonal flooding that has historically cut off communities across the Lafia metropolis.

In addition to the Kilema Bridge, the Vice President is scheduled to commission the newly constructed Maimatasa Road and Kashim Shettima Road to significantly boost intra-city transport and local commerce. Moving from the infrastructure grid to traditional state functions, Shettima will participate in the grand 70th birthday celebration of the Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Mohammed Bage I, where he will inaugurate a newly built honorary hall within the royal palace grounds. Upon landing in Lafia, the Vice President was received by a high-powered delegation led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe, Senator Ahmed Wadada, and the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu.
