VP Shettima Visits Maiduguri to Condole Military and Borno Government

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Abuja, NIGERIA – Vice President Kashim Shettima made an unscheduled visit to Maiduguri on Saturday, April 11, 2026, to personally deliver the federal government’s condolences following the insurgent attack that claimed the lives of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and several other soldiers.

Okay News reports that the Vice President, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, met with the leadership of the Nigerian Army and Borno State officials to honor the fallen heroes. During the visit, Shettima emphasized the profound debt the nation owes to its service members who face constant danger on the frontlines.

“These men wore the uniform for all of us,” the Vice President stated. “They stood to protect our communities, our families, and the future of our children. Their courage reminds us that peace and security often come at a very heavy cost.”

The visit follows a series of high-level reactions to the Benisheikh attack, including President Tinubu’s earlier statement labeling the insurgent counteroffensive a “sign of desperation.” Shettima used the occasion to reassure the military of sustained operational support, affirming that under the current administration, criminals will have “no hiding place.”

A statement from Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, confirmed that the visit is part of a broader effort to boost troop morale and demonstrate a renewed security resolve as the Armed Forces intensify land and air offensives against terrorist elements in the Northeast.
