Wayne Rooney, Former Manchester United player, was arrested at Dulles Airport outside Washington, United States in December, the police said.
The 33-year-old was arrested for public intoxication and was taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on December 16, said Kraig Troxell, a spokesman for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said.
He was later released on the same day on a personal recognisance bond.
It was not immediately clear why police had delayed details of Rooney’s arrest for more than two weeks.
