Wayne Rooney Sacked as Birmingham City FC Manager After Brief Stint

By Yusuf Abubakar

Birmingham City FC has officially parted ways with Wayne Rooney, the former English international and manager, following the club’s 3-0 defeat against Leeds United on New Year’s Day. The decision comes after only three months into Rooney’s tenure at the English Championship side.

Rooney, 38, took charge in October but faced a challenging period, managing the team through 15 matches and securing only two wins during his brief stint. The club’s management released a statement confirming the departure of Rooney and Carl Robinson, the first-team coach.

The statement from Birmingham City FC reads, “Birmingham City has today parted company with Manager, Wayne Rooney, and First Team Coach, Carl Robinson. Despite their best efforts, results have not met the expectations that were made clear at the outset. Therefore, the Board feels that a change in management is in the best interests of the Football Club.”

The board expressed gratitude to Rooney and Robinson for their efforts during their time with the club. The decision to relieve Rooney of his managerial duties reflects the club’s determination to meet its expectations and achieve success in the Championship.

Rooney, who retired as a footballer in January 2021, embarked on his managerial career with stints at Derby County and DC United before joining Birmingham City FC.
