ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has expressed deep concern over the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State, assuring Nigerians that security agencies have taken swift action to contain the situation and restore order.
Speaking at a press conference held at Radio House in Abuja, on Tuesday (March 31, 2026), the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Hon. Idris Mohammed Malagi, conveyed condolences on behalf of and the Federal Government to the victims’ families, as well as the government and people of Plateau and Kaduna States.
“Let me assure Nigerians that security agencies responded immediately to the incident,” Idris said, noting that troops under Operation Enduring Peace were rapidly mobilised following distress calls.
He explained that the military, alongside other security agencies, secured key access routes, cordoned off affected areas, and launched targeted operations to track down those responsible. According to him, “These swift actions ensured that the situation was quickly contained and prevented further escalation.”
The minister said the response forms part of a broader federal security strategy across Plateau and the wider North-Central region, involving intelligence-led missions, reinforced surveillance, and joint patrols aimed at neutralising threats before they escalate.
He also disclosed that President Tinubu held a high-level meeting with security and intelligence chiefs earlier in the day (March 31, 2026, GMT+1) to review the situation and adopt further measures. Following the meeting, Plateau State governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has been invited for consultations to develop a coordinated path toward lasting peace.
While acknowledging the gravity of the incident, Idris urged Nigerians to view it within the context of longstanding localised security challenges in the area, stating that it does not amount to a nationwide security breakdown.
“The Federal Government has directed all security agencies to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice,” he said.
Reaffirming the government’s resolve, Idris added, “There will be no safe haven for criminal elements anywhere in Nigeria.”
He further assured citizens that the situation in Plateau remains under control, urging the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and avoid spreading unverified information that could inflame tensions.
In a firm closing message, the minister declared: “Nigeria will not yield to fear. We will protect our people, and we will prevail.”
