Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Kenneth Minimah has said that the country’s military would soon be victorious against Boko Haram.

Minimah also assured that none of the country’s territories would ever fall under the terrorist group’s control again.

The COAS gave the assurance on Monday, March 16, while declaring open the 2015 first quarter Chief of Army Staff conference.

“We are already there, we are at the verge of the promised land. The challenges we are faced with have again brought to fore the strength, perseverance, long-suffering and resilience of the Nigerian nation and its people,” Minimah said.

“Despite some setbacks we suffered in the course of our operations, the good people of this country never wavered but consistently identified with us. They are understandably frustrated when we failed to perform to expectation, but are always quick to show their support and appreciation for our successes. It is from them we continued to draw inspiration,” he added.

“I urge all officers and soldiers to continue to uphold the Nigerian Army’s values of loyalty, courage, professionalism, discipline, respect and sacrifice. We are going to redouble our efforts and make sure that never again would Nigeria lose any territory. Nigerians must identify with us and you know the Nigerian society is such that if you are not doing well, they will come out and register their disaffection,” Minimah said.

The Nigerian Army has recorded a string of victories against the sect in recent times due to efforts being boosted by support from a multinational force which includes troops from Chad, Niger and Cameroon.
