WhatsApp Expands iPad Support, In-Car Features and Status Sharing

Published

MENLO PARK, United StatesWhatsApp has introduced a fresh set of features that expand the messaging platform’s capabilities across iPad, in-car infotainment systems, desktop browsers, and Status updates.

Users can now create a standalone WhatsApp account directly on the iPad app using a phone number and verification code, removing the need to link the tablet to an existing smartphone. Okay News reports that the update also enhances support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enabling users to access call history, manage favourite contacts, and listen to or reply to messages through compatible vehicle displays.

The latest release also adds built-in PDF viewing and basic editing tools, including highlighting and annotations, for web and desktop users, eliminating the need for separate applications. In addition, users can now share live audio tracks from supported streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify directly to their WhatsApp Status.

The new features expand on recent platform enhancements, including the introduction of phone-number-hidden usernames and the rollout of the WhatsApp Plus subscription service across Meta’s family of applications, as the company continues to strengthen cross-device functionality and user experience.
