Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday justified their decision to stage a walkout during the confirmation of ministerial nominees earlier screened.

According to the Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, they staged a walkout to avoid being part of what he called “illegality” as the Senate was set to confirm a former governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi.

Akpabio, who described the confirmation of Mr. Amaechi as a “charade” regretting that the APC senators did not give them opportunity to express their position.

“We staged a walk-out because we felt that there is total breach in the law. You will notice that our colleague never allow to hear our view,” he said.

Rivers Integrity group had submitted a petition against the former Rivers Governor, alleging corruption while he was in office.

However, the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges that looked into the matter was rejected just as the APC senators went ahead to confirm Mr. Amaechi and 17 others as ministers.
