Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has named an additional 28, 000 Special Assistants for the State’s political organizations.

Their appointments are effective right away.

Okay.ng also learned that despite the criticism and outrage that followed his earlier selection of 14,319 political advisers, the appointment was made.

A news release from Kelvin Ebiri, the governor’s special assistant for media, details the most recent appointment.

Recall that on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, the governor nominated 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers and 319 Ward Liaison Officers.

In the meantime, Wike has given the go-ahead for N1 billion in emergency relief funds to help flood victims in the State’s Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The governor, who expressed sympathy for the flood victims, also established a Taskforce to organize the provision of aid supplies to the State’s impacted communities.

The N1 billion approved by the Rivers State Government, according to Wike, is intended to help vulnerable families, particularly in the Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGAs, which are the most affected areas in the State, deal with the devastating flood that has inundated homes, farmlands, and forced residents of affected communities to leave for safer areas.

The taskforce’s chairman will be Dr. George Nwaeke, the Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau (SSB) in the Office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, while the secretary will be Mrs. Inime I. Aguma, according to the governor.

Hon. Hope Ikiriko, Chairman of Ahoada West LGA; Hon. Vincent Job, Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA; Hon. Chukwuemeka Onowo; and the Director of Administration in the Ministry of Special Duties are additional Taskforce members.

On Thursday, the Taskforce’s whole membership will meet with the governor of Rivers State at Government House in Port Harcourt.
