Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he is currently the most abused politician in the country after President Bola Tinubu, while declaring that political activities in Rivers State will formally begin in January 2026.
Okay News reports that Wike made the remarks during a thanksgiving service organised by Chibudom Nwuche, a former Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, and his family in Ochiba community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, located in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region.
The former Rivers State governor told attendees that he remains firm on agreements he enters into and reaffirmed his unwavering political support for Tinubu, Nigeria’s President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Wike thanked residents of Ahoada East and Ahoada West local government areas for what he described as years of consistent loyalty, recalling how the communities stood by him during difficult political periods.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, Wike said many political actors were uncertain about Tinubu’s chances, but local leaders in the area chose to take a decisive stand when it mattered most.
He said the firm support from the communities helped strengthen Tinubu’s mandate in Rivers State, adding that those now publicly aligning with the president were largely absent during the critical moments of the campaign.
The FCT minister made a veiled reference to recent political realignments in Rivers State, suggesting that some expressions of loyalty to Tinubu came only after electoral victory had been secured.
Wike stressed that honouring political agreements remains central to his approach, warning that he would not commit to any arrangement he could not fulfil, as he announced that political engagements ahead of future elections would begin from January next year.
He stated that his refusal to compromise on agreements has made him a frequent target of political attacks, claiming that criticism directed at him is often driven by personal or financial motives rather than genuine ideological differences.
Wike also alleged that some politicians deliberately attack him to gain access to financial benefits, describing the practice as a common tactic within Nigeria’s political landscape.
Earlier, Chibudom Nwuche praised Wike’s tenure as Rivers State governor, citing his role in elevating traditional institutions within the Ekpeye Kingdom and crediting him with development projects that positively impacted the area.
Nwuche said Wike’s leadership style distinguished him from past administrations, adding that community support for the FCT minister remains strong due to what he described as tangible benefits delivered during his time in office.
