Wike Tells Fubara He’s ‘2-0 Down,’ Says Rivers Governor Won’t Succeed Surrounded by Wrong People

Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, warning that the governor has surrounded himself with people who “don’t mean well” for the state and predicting that his administration will not succeed.

Wike, who spoke on Saturday to a large gathering of his supporters in Rivers State, said those advising Fubara today were the same people who desperately sought the governorship ticket but were rejected because they were not fit to lead the state.

In a direct reference to Fubara’s ongoing political challenges, Wike mocked his successor, saying the governor was already “2-0 down” following recent Supreme Court rulings that ordered him to re-present the 2025 budget to the Martin Amaewhule-led 27 lawmakers and to reconduct local government elections in the state.

“You [Fubara] surrounded yourself with people who wanted to be governor, whom I said ‘no, these people don’t mean well for Rivers State,’” Wike said.

“They are the ones surrounding you, giving you advice. Do you think you will succeed?

“They will give bad advice, and look at what bad advice is doing to you. You are already down 2-0, and there’s more to come.”
