The rivalry between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the FCT, has escalated, with Wike vowing to ensure Kingibe’s defeat in the 2027 senatorial election.

Speaking at the flag-off of the Mabushi Bus Terminal construction in Abuja, Wike responded to Kingibe’s criticism of his performance, saying, “If we have done well, we have done well. If we haven’t, we haven’t.” He challenged Kingibe to run in Abuja in 2027, stating, “We will fail you. Do you think what happened last time will happen again? It will not.”

The minister’s comments come after Kingibe, elected on the Labour Party (LP) platform, accused Wike of sidelining her and expressed her unwillingness to befriend him. The feud between the two officials has been ongoing since they assumed office.
