Professor Wole Soyinka has announced that he may reapply for his US green card, which he had destroyed in 2016 after Donald Trump’s election as US President.

Trump’s recent conviction on 34 charges of falsifying business records has led Soyinka to consider reapplying for his permanent residency in the United States.

In a statement, Soyinka described the verdict as a “daybreak on a new democratic promise” and a “clear warning” that the “clamour for equity breaks down the stoutest gates on guard across the citadel of impunity.” He also noted that the Trump debacle is a challenge and a call to preparedness and steadfastness.
