The federal government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has granted over 14,950 farmer cooperative groups in Kano state agricultural inputs support under Fadama III project to boost food production in the state.

This was disclosed by the project coordinator, Shuaibu Sulaiman, while speaking during the 8th Joint World Bank/FG meeting to review the activities of the project in the last six months in the state.

Sulaiman said the beneficiaries were selected from the 44 local government areas of the state and were supported with fertilizer, improved seeds and other inputs to boost food production capacity.

He said: “The purpose of the programme is to support the poor with a view to empowering them to improve their socio-economic status.

“That is why we have included divorcees and widows among the beneficiaries and we supported them with water pumps and improved tomato, rice and sorghum seeds.”

The coordinator said 500 tricycles were also distributed to unemployed graduates for commercial use, including transportation of farm produce to various markets in the state.
