Apple has revealed its ambitious AI strategy as part of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote today, introducing a suite of features aimed at enhancing user experience while prioritizing privacy.

These new Apple Intelligence features, available across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, leverage a combination of on-device and server-powered generative AI models.

The Apple Intelligence features include personalized prioritization of notifications on iPhone, generative writing tools across apps, image generation, and more.

Notably, Apple emphasizes that its generative AI stands out for its personalization to individual contexts while maintaining user privacy.

For example, Apple Intelligence can analyze the content of an email, identify related contacts, and provide directions or find relevant files accordingly. Additionally, the Image Generation feature allows users to create cartoon images resembling contacts in their address book and share them via Messages.

Crucially, Apple’s generative AI is primarily powered by on-device models, compatible with the A17 Pro chip on iPhone 15 Pro and M1 and later Apple Silicon Macs. Moreover, Apple is launching a new server infrastructure, named Private Cloud Compute, to support more sophisticated AI models. This infrastructure enables powerful generative AI models to process user data without compromising privacy.

Apple assures users that their data is never stored or made accessible to the company when utilizing Private Cloud Compute, emphasizing its commitment to protecting user privacy.
