Xenophobia: Nigeria Begins Evacuation of Citizens From South Africa

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Abuja, NIGERIA – The federal government will begin evacuating Nigerian citizens from South Africa on Wednesday following recent xenophobic attacks in the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, stated that reception and support arrangements have been established for the arrivals. The returnees will undergo official profiling and documentation before being reunited with their families.

The first batch of returnees is scheduled to depart from Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday night. The flight is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 5:00 am on Thursday.

Okay News reports that the repatriation exercise is fully funded by the Nigerian government and will be executed by Air Peace, ensuring that affected citizens are evacuated at no cost.
