The media team of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has reaffirmed that he was present at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office on Wednesday, despite the agency’s denial that he was in its custody, Okay.ng reports.

Earlier, Bello’s team announced that the former governor had honored the EFCC’s invitation after consulting with his legal and political associates.

However, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale contradicted this claim, stating that Bello remains wanted and was not in the Commission’s custody.

Reacting to this, Bello’s team, through a statement by Ohiare Michael, its director, maintained that the former governor did indeed visit the EFCC office, accompanied by his successor, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The team added that Bello was not interrogated and was informed by EFCC officials that he could leave.

“Earlier today, we reported the voluntary visit of former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission office to honor the Commission’s invitation,” Michael stated.

“The EFCC did not, however, interrogate him as officials told him he could leave. We don’t know what this means yet. As we write, Yahaya Bello has left the EFCC office.”

The statement reiterated that Bello has consistently respected the rule of law and had previously been represented by his legal team in court hearings related to the allegations.

The media team emphasized that Bello’s visit was a step towards clearing his name, asserting that he has “nothing to hide and nothing to fear.”

Bello faces allegations of N80.2 billion money laundering charges, with a warrant for his arrest still reportedly active according to the EFCC.
