Asaba, Nigeria – Commissioner of Police Oyeniyi Yemi John has officially assumed duty as the 24th Commissioner of Police in Delta State, succeeding CP Aina Adesola.
Okay News reports that the new police boss, born on March 5, 1969, in Kwara State, brings over two decades of extensive policing experience spanning operations, administration, investigation, and training to his new command.
CP Oyeniyi joined the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in Public Order and Information Management from the University of Uyo.
Throughout his career, he has served in key investigative and administrative roles across multiple state commands, including Akwa Ibom, Zamfara, Enugu, Ogun, and Ondo.
Between 2007 and 2010, the new Commissioner participated in international peacekeeping missions under the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) and the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS).
Prior to his latest deployment to Delta State, he was appointed Commissioner of Police and Deputy Head of the Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja in May 2025. Known for his expertise in criminal investigation and anti-fraud operations, CP Oyeniyi is a member of the National Institute of Police Studies and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management.
