The Yobe State Police Command has announced the arrest of a woman, Hamsatu Modu, for allegedly trafficking 350 rounds of ammunition.

According to a statement released on Monday by Dungus Abdulkarim, the police spokesperson, the suspect was apprehended while transporting the ammunition from Buni Yadi to Damaturu, the state capital.

Modu was arrested following a tip-off that alerted the police to her movement. Acting on the intelligence, officers swiftly intercepted a Golf 3 saloon car, where a thorough search revealed 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 MM ammunition hidden in her luggage.

The statement sad: “On October 20, 2024, at about 1830 hours, ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, received credible intelligence regarding a suspected gunrunner en route to Damaturu.

“Swift action led to the interception of a Golf 3 saloon car, and a thorough search revealed 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 MM ammunition concealed in the suspect’s luggage.”

The suspect is currently being interrogated as police work to uncover the motives behind the arms trafficking and identify any criminal networks involved.

Garba Ahmed, the Yobe State Police Commissioner, reiterated the command’s dedication to combating crime and called for the continued cooperation of residents in reporting suspicious activities.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods,” Ahmed stated.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as the case unfolds.
