Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has expressed strong disapproval of Chelsea’s move to appoint Liam Rosenior as their new head coach.
Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast, the veteran pundit argued that the London club’s youthful squad requires a seasoned leader rather than another developing manager to achieve success.
Okay News reports that Rosenior is expected at Stamford Bridge today for final talks to replace Enzo Maresca, who departed on New Year’s Day. Addressing the club’s strategy, Neville insisted that the current path will not lead to a Premier League title, stating:
You genuinely can’t win anything with kids. That’s a fact. Alan Hansen was completely correct.
Neville further emphasized that the team lacks the necessary guidance for a top-four finish, telling Chelsea:
The club could use some more experienced people both inside the team and around the club. If you have young players playing, I also think you need a manager who has a lot of experience. It seems they are planning to hire another young manager once more. I just think young players need someone to guide them and show them the way.
The remarks come as Chelsea currently sits in fifth place in the league standings following a recent draw against Manchester City. Despite the criticism, the club’s hierarchy appears set to finalize Rosenior’s move from French side Strasbourg before their next match.
