PARIS, France – Zinedine Zidane has been officially appointed as the new head coach of the France national football team, with the French Football Federation (FFF) confirming he has signed a contract that runs until 2030.
Okay News reports that the former Real Madrid manager succeeds Didier Deschamps, ending the latter’s 14-year spell in charge of Les Bleus. Zidane will oversee France’s campaign at UEFA Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
FFF president Philippe Diallo described the appointment as a landmark moment for French football and praised Deschamps for restoring the national team’s standing during his tenure. He said the federation considered it important to acknowledge the achievements of the outgoing coach before beginning a new chapter.
Zidane said taking charge of France was the only coaching role he wanted after leaving Real Madrid, revealing he had rejected other offers while waiting for the opportunity. He added that representing France had been the highest point of his playing career and that leading the national team now was a challenge that deeply motivated him.
The former midfielder said his priority is to build on the team’s recent successes and help France continue competing for major international honours. Zidane’s appointment marks his return to management after several years away from the dugout following his successful spells with Real Madrid.
