Zulum Launches ₦3 Billion Quarry Plant, Procures 70 Trucks

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Pulka, Borno State, NIGERIA – Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned a new quarry center in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area, and distributed 70 brand-new Howo pickup trucks to accelerate road construction and maintenance across the state.

Okay News gathered that the ₦3 billion quarry plant, which has a processing capacity of 120 tons per hour, was established to provide locally sourced materials like granite and gravel. This move is intended to reduce the state’s reliance on external suppliers and significantly cut the costs of ongoing and future infrastructure projects.

During the flag-off ceremony at the Government House on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Governor Zulum explained that the decision to directly empower the Ministry of Works and the State Road Maintenance Agency (BORMA) was necessitated by the state’s security challenges. He noted that many private contractors are unwilling to deploy heavy equipment to certain areas due to the risk of insurgency.

“No serious contractor will take the risk of deploying his equipment to most of the implementing areas,” Zulum stated. “So, we have no option but to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Works and BORMA to handle these projects themselves.”

The 70 new trucks are expected to improve the swift delivery of construction materials to rural sites and ensure faster repairs on distressed roads. The event was attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, and various engineering heads who will oversee the new equipment and the Pulka facility.
