President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Donald Trump on his re-election as the 47th president of the United States, expressing optimism about the future of Nigeria-U.S. relations.

Trump is on the verge of being formally declared president-elect by major television networks.

In a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu highlighted his anticipation of closer collaboration with the U.S. to tackle global challenges and enhance economic cooperation.

“I look forward to strengthening the ties between Nigeria and the United States amid the complex challenges and opportunities of the contemporary world,” Tinubu remarked.

President Tinubu emphasized his belief that Trump’s leadership would contribute to global stability, stating that his return to the White House “will bring the world closer to peace.”

“Together, we can foster economic cooperation, promote peace, and address global challenges that affect our citizens,” Tinubu said.

He also noted that Trump’s victory “reflects the trust and confidence the American people have placed in his leadership.”

The Nigerian leader praised the American people for their commitment to democracy, viewing Trump’s re-election as an opportunity to build stronger ties between Africa and the U.S.

“President Tinubu believes that, given President Trump’s experience as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, his return to the White House as the 47th president will usher in an era of earnest, beneficial, and reciprocal economic and development partnerships between Africa and the United States,” the statement read.
