Government House, Gusau, NIGERIA — Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Dauda Lawal for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
Okay News gathered that the gathering brought together an unprecedented assembly of the state’s political leadership, including all four former governors: Ahmed Sani Yarima, Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi, Abdul’aziz Yari, and Bello Mohammed Matawalle. The endorsement was solidified in a communique read by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, which emphasized that the meeting was a strategic platform to coordinate governance and address security concerns ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
Addressing the assembly, Governor Dauda Lawal described his recent defection to the APC as a “deliberate and well-considered decision” aimed at strengthening state-federal collaboration. He emphasized that joining the ruling party positions Zamfara to better leverage national initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda. “Our decision to join the APC was not just political but a strategic move to support Zamfara’s repositioning,” the Governor stated, adding that his administration remains focused on restoring stability and rebuilding institutions.
The former governors took turns during the meeting to reaffirm their loyalty to the party and their commitment to the Tinubu-Lawal ticket for 2027. Governor Lawal urged members to manage their political aspirations with “maturity and strategic discipline,” warning that while the political space is expanding, internal democracy and party loyalty must remain paramount. The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to maintain a united front against the insecurity challenges confronting the state, ensuring that political relevance is tied directly to the state’s developmental progress.
