3 Die of Lassa Fever In Taraba

Three persons have died in Taraba state after an outbreak of Lassa fever, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

This was revealed on Monday by the WHO Surveillance Officer Bello Ahmed at a workshop on Lassa fever in Jalingo, the state’s capital.

According to Ahmed Bello, 12 cases have been reported, with three persons confirmed dead; while three positive cases have been placed under close monitoring.

He noted that Bali, Ibi, Gassol, Gashaka, Jalingo and Ardo-Kola local governments in Taraba have been placed under Red Alert.

In addition, he explained that two persons have died in Jalingo and one in Ardo-Kola, putting the state at 25 per cent infection rate.

Bello also noted that the survey was conducted between January 1 and 28, with 367 contacts identified across the country, admonishing to ensure proper personal hygiene to halt the spread of the disease.
