Troops Rescue 8 Persons, Recover N466,000 From Fleeing Boko Haram Terrorists

Soldiers attached to Operation Lafiya Dole have rescued eight persons, recovered N466,000 from fleeing Boko Haram terrorists and resettled 134 others in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp during a search and rescue exercise in North East where the task force is currently moving to dislodge the last of the remnants of the terrorists.

A statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations (DAPR), Colonel Sani Usman, said the sum was recovered by troops of 22 Brigade Garrison during a blockage from some terrorists who obviously were o fleeing on motorcycles, adding that “they killed one Boko Haram terrorist and recovered three motorcycles, one bag containing a cash sum of four hundred and sixty six thousand naira (N466,000.00).

“In addition, the troops also rescued eight abducted persons made up of two women, two female teenagers, three male children and a minor who unfortunately sustained injury and is receiving treatment at the unit’s medical facility,” he said.

The rescued persons, according to Usman, were abducted last year from Ngoshe Bara village in Gwoza Local Council of Borno State by the terrorist group and taken to Sambisa Forest where the females were reportedly married off to some sect fighters.

It was revealed that, one of the rescued women with two children, Fatima Mohammed is wife of a retired district judge in Gwoza, Mallam Mustapha, who was killed by the terrorists before her abduction.

The statement added that troops of 26 Battalion, 151 Task Force Battalion, 155 Task Force Battalion and some elements of 21 Brigade carried out a joint clearance operations “to destroy remnants of Boko Haram terrorists camps and enclaves in the early hours of today (yesterday) in several villages in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, namely, Kircha Goniye, Wujjah Alkelu, Kita Jiddum, Jameri, Geri Gana, Gere Kura and Jabe.

“Other villages cleared by the troops were Hasana Jere and Chachile. During the operation, our troops came in contact with elements of the terrorist group during which two of the terrorists were killed. The troops also recovered five dane guns, two handsets, three Boko Haram terrorist flags and a generator as well as several vehicles,” Usman stated.
