The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) released the McLaren report on Friday which detailed an “institution conspiracy” of state-sponsored doping of Russian athletes.
The report involved more than 1,000 Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

There has also been a claim that London’s 2012 Olympics were “corrupted on an unprecedented scale”.

In the aftermath, some are calling into question Russia’s legitimacy to host the World Cup in 2018, what with Fifa’s checkered past.

“Fifa now have to look very seriously at the way in which the World Cup is going to be staged,” said MP Damian Collins.

“How can Russia give confidence to Fifa and to the world that there will be proper anti-doping measures in place during the World Cup?”

“It does call into question how someone like Vitaly Mutko, who was sports minister – and in the Wada report they said it would have been impossible for him not to know what was going on – can sit on the Fifa council.”
