Governor of Zamfara state Abdulaziz Yari is to temporarily forfeit the sum of N500m and $500,000 allegedly looted from the Paris Club refunds.

The ruling was made by the Federal High Court in Abuja on 30 June, 2017.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged the governor before the Justice Nnamdi Dimgba-led Federal High court, for allegedly diverting public funds for private use.

Yari, the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), was alleged to have diverted N500m from the NGF bank account to offset private loan obtained from the First Generation Mortgage Bank Limited.

It was also alleged that the governor diverted public funds to fund his 100-room hotel project in Lagos.

In his ruling, Justice Nnamdi also ordered that any person(s) or body with interest in the funds must, within 14 days of the publication of the interim order of forfeiture in any national daily, show cause why an order of final forfeiture to the Federal Government of the funds should not be made.
