Mathew Kolawole (APC-Kabba Bunnu) has been elected as the new Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, following the resignation of Hon. Ahmed Imam, who took over from Hon. Momoh Jimoh Lawal in February 2016.

Hon. Ahmed Mohammed had nominated Kolawole for the position of speaker on Thursday, which was seconded Hon. Abdulkareem Kekere.

The new speaker pledged to carry all aggrieved members along by delivering good legislation and people-driven government.

Bello Hassan Balogun (APC-Ajaokuta) was also elected the new Majority Leader while Victor Omofaye (APC-Ijumu) was elected Chief Whip.

There was heavy presence of armed security operatives who conducted a stop and search before observers could gain access to the assembly complex for Thursday’s plenary.
