Unknown Gunmen reportedly opened fire at the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunjion, on Monday while the installation of Mogajis and Baales were ongoing.

Four gunmen, in a black Toyota Sienna, reportedly opened fire sporadically around 11:45am, shattering glass windows of vehicles parked in front of the palace.

The appointment of the Baales and Mogajis by the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, was heavily criticised by the Olubadan and some other custodians of tradition.

It was gathered that three journalists and a stalwart of Labour Party, who was a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Sharafadeen Alli, were among the people who escaped death.

Alli‎, who is the Asaju Balogun Olubadan of Ibadan land, was said to be inside the car when bullets hit his car.

The gunmen stopped in front of the palace, shooting and daring people inside the palace to come out and confront them.

The shooting, however, did not stop the coronation inside the palace, Punch reported.
