Britain is planning to stop sales of new diesel and petrol cars by 2040, as it begins to fine-tune more details about the move this week.

According to Reuters, a government source noted that the Prime Minister Theresa May’s government has not backed down from its earlier plans of effecting the ban from 2040.

Recall that there have been debates on whether the plans will include hybrid models, which have an electric and combustion engine.

“We will end the sale of new conventional petrol and diesel engine cars by 2040,” the source said on condition of anonymity. “It’s not government policy to ban hybrids.”

The earliest ministers will detail the plans, known as “Road to Zero,” is on Wednesday but they are unlikely to come so soon.
