Nigerians are reacting to the arrest of Omowole Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 general elections, by Department of State Services (DSS).

In an earlier news, Okay.ng reported that Sowore was arrested in the early hours of Saturday at about 1.25 a.m.

Sowore tweeted a distress message saying “DSS invades Sowore’s”.

Reacting to this, Nigerians on Twitter called for the release of the activist.

#FreeSowore Mr president do you still remember this protest pictures, who and who dey front of this picture, Mr buhari is you and you and you and you, but today you are sending DSS to arrest someone that is doing sametin that you did some years ago. #freesowore pic.twitter.com/iYOi2Q6Kdd

Nothing could be more daft! Of all the actions to take against a constitutionally and legally backed protest, the last should be an arrest of the convener. #FreeSowore

This is the aftermath of what the armed DSS did to the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement @YeleSowore Car during his arrest overnight. When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes a duty. #RevolutionNow #FreeSowore pic.twitter.com/h4AnTYoeh6

Our democracy is a block of ice floating on warm waters. The sponsored protest and attacks on the @AmnestyNigeria stands condemned. The arrest & detention of @YeleSowore is needless.I join the call for his release #FreeSowore.

Does Buhari think Sowore is not aware the arrest would happen. If not he would have slept in a more secure place. This is a trap and I'm happy Buhari fell into it cluelessly.

Buhari finally used his cluelessness to activate #RevolutionNow protest.#FreeSowore #FreeSoworeNow pic.twitter.com/OuHDKX9I1y

If news report of DSS picking up @YeleSowore is confirmed then those behind his arrest sure did not learn from the past, he just had you were he wants you to be. Now we won't know if #RevolutionNow would have really taken over Nigerian government on Monday. It's now #FreeSowore

Sowore has been arrested by the DSS for organizing a protest against bad governance.

Nigeria is now under a military-style dictatorship under a system that pretends to be democracy.#FreeSowore
