Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai has excoriated the recent killings of two herdsmen in Birnin Gwari local government area of of the state.

This was said to be done by mob perpetrators which resulted in the killing of the two herders.

The commissioner for internal security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan stated this after reports reached his desk.

According to his statement, “security agencies recounted that the mob coercively seized the two herders from security personnel, on vogue claims connected with banditry.

The mob lynched and burnt the herdsmen, without proving the authenticity of those claims.

The governor expressed his deep concerns at the actions of mob, he also criticized and condemned other similar killings in the state.

He emphasized the position of lawful means as the only acceptable method in punishing any criminal suspects.

The governor made an appeal to the bereaved families of the victims to keep calm as investigations are being made to arrest the perpetrators.

He afterwards told the Ministry of internal security and home affairs to work with the military, police as well as DSS to contact the victims’ families for further involvements aimed at preventing retaliative attacks.

The Governor gave further warnings against deliberate action under the umbrella of self-help and cautioned against harmful stereotyping and common lawless dispositions which could result to violence.

“Investigations into the incident are in progress”, the statement was declared by the Governor.

In line with that, the governor has been notified by security agencies about the conduct of some groups and individuals in the general area, who unwittingly complicate the security situations with insensitive public commentaries.

“Such actions have been ajudged by security agencies as unhelpful in the ongoing operations against terrorists and bandits”.

While the Government of Kaduna State is not against commentaries on security challenges, the Government’s position remains that individuals and groups with useful information should liaise with security agencies, rather than expose citizens to extreme danger through supposed advocacy.
