UN expresses displeasure over effects of flooding in Nigeria

The UN has expressed worry over the flooding in Nigeria, which has impacted the lives of over than 2.8 million men, women and youngsters.

Okay.ng gathered that the UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said this at a information convention at UN headquarters in new york.

According to the Nigerian authorities, over 600 people have died, and 1.3 million people were displaced.

“We are gravely concerned that the flooding will cause large effects as there is alarming food insecurity and malnutrition situation in Nigeria.

“More than than 440,000 hectares of farmland have been partially or totally damaged at a time while more than 19 million people across Nigeria are facing extreme lack of food supply.’’

The spokesman stated cereal manufacturing would probably decline via 3.4 per cent as compared to 2021 due to the flooding, excessive agriculture manufacturing charges, and insecurity, in keeping with FAO.

“Considering that in July, nationwide authorities in Nigeria have supplied food, non-meals items and clean drinking water to hundreds of impacted families.

“We, along with our humanitarian partners are assisting the government with tests and reaction, substantially in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states, as well as in different impacted parts of Nigeria.

“we’ve supplied emergency shelter kits, and are working to create neighborhood water drains, sandbags, and walling round shelters to mitigate the affects of the flooding,’’ he said.
