Tambuwal Sues For Calm After Airstrikes Linked to Counterterrorism Operations

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called on residents to remain calm following reports of airstrikes carried out as part of ongoing counterterrorism cooperation between Nigeria and the United States. He urged communities to stay law-abiding while authorities work to clarify the details surrounding the operation.

Tambuwal disclosed that he is already engaging relevant security agencies to obtain comprehensive information on the incident and to ensure that all necessary safeguards are observed.

Okay News reports that the senator reassured residents of Sokoto South that the operation was not directed at civilians but aimed solely at criminal and terrorist elements responsible for insecurity in the region.

Emphasising the importance of civilian protection, Tambuwal stated that innocent citizens are themselves victims of terrorism and must not be placed at risk during security operations. He maintained that safeguarding lives remains central to all legitimate counterterrorism efforts undertaken by the Nigerian government and its partners.

The former governor also praised the military and security agencies for their courage and professionalism in tackling terrorism and banditry under difficult conditions.

He appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to cooperate with security agencies by sharing credible information and resisting misinformation, stressing that unity and vigilance are essential to restoring lasting peace in Sokoto State and across Nigeria.
