The Lagos State Government has directed a coroner’s inquest into the death of Whitney Omodesola Adeniran, a 12-year-old student of Chrisland School, who passed away on Thursday, 9th February 2023.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), ordered the thorough investigation, stating that the cause of death must be established.

According to a statement from the public affairs unit of the State’s Ministry of Justice, the coroner’s inquest is in line with sections 14 and 15 of the Coroners’ Systems Law, Laws of Lagos State 2015, which require a report of death to be made and subjected to post-mortem examination where there is reasonable cause to believe that the cause of death was violent, unnatural, or suspicious.

“The findings of this investigation will be made public in due course, and appropriate sanctions meted out to anyone found culpable,” said the Attorney General.

The Lagos State Government assures citizens that their security and well-being are of the utmost importance, and everything will be done to ensure that the cause of death is known.

The Coroner will hold an inquest to determine the circumstances surrounding Whitney’s death, and the results will be made available to the public.
