Former Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko, has been declared the winner of the senatorial seat in the northern district of the state, following the supplementary election held on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the initial election, which held on March 18, inconclusive due to irregularities in some polling units.

Announcing the results of the supplementary election, the returning officer for the Sokoto North senatorial district, Usman Magawata, revealed that Wamakko, who is the incumbent senator for the constituency, polled 141,468 votes to defeat Mannir Daniya, his closest rival and deputy governor of the state, who had 118,445 votes.

Abubakar Mode of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 561 votes to come third in the election.
