Niger Delta Science School, Rumuola, Port Harcourt emerged as the winner of the annual Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG)-sponsored science quiz competition in Rivers State.

The competition, which focused on the theme “Net Zero Science,” showcased the knowledge and enthusiasm of secondary school students.

The contest, held in three stages—the Olympiad, Championship, and Grand Finale—highlighted the significance of science education in Nigeria.

NLNG’s General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development, Andy Odeh, expressed pride in the participating students, commending their passion and knowledge.

Odeh emphasized the competition’s potential to inspire young minds to pursue careers in science-related fields and contribute to the country’s progress.

“This year’s science quiz competition is focused on climate change and net-zero emissions,” Odeh stated. “We believe that this competition will raise awareness among young people and inspire them to take action and become agents of change.”

NLNG recognizes the pivotal role of science in achieving its vision of being a globally competitive LNG company that contributes to building a better Nigeria.

NLNG has consistently demonstrated its commitment to science development through various intervention projects.

The company’s initiatives include the NLNG University Support Programme, which aims to modernize and equip laboratories and technical workshops in selected universities across Nigeria.

Additionally, NLNG’s Hospital Support Programme focuses on increasing capacity in 12 teaching hospitals, while The Nigeria Prize for Science stands as one of Africa’s most prestigious science awards.

Dr. Mrs. Ataisi Ngerebara, Director of Science and Education at the Rivers State Ministry of Education, praised NLNG for providing a platform for talented children who previously lacked opportunities to showcase their abilities.

Recognizing the role of science in driving global development, she emphasized the need to encourage innovativeness and creativity among young scientists and science enthusiasts in Nigeria.

The NLNG Science Quiz Competition serves as an excellent example of NLNG’s commitment to promoting science education in Nigeria.

It engages students in a fun and interactive manner, fostering a deeper understanding of science and its importance in society.

NLNG’s partnership with the Rivers State Ministry of Education and the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Rivers State Chapter, highlights the collaborative effort to advance science education across the country.
