President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on an international diplomatic mission in Berlin, Germany, this Saturday.

He is to attend the G-20 Compact with Africa (CwA) Conference scheduled for November 20, 2023.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will host the conference, which aims to foster economic cooperation among participating African nations and global partners.

Accompanying President Tinubu on the visit are key members of his administration, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar; the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite; and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.

Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, confirmed this in an official statement released on Friday, highlighting that President Tinubu will engage with other Heads of State and Government from CwA member countries, bilateral partners, and leaders of international organizations. The discussions will focus on strategies to bolster investments in crucial sectors like energy, trade, infrastructure, and new technologies.

Moreover, Ngelale emphasized that this visit underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering diplomatic ties, reciprocating the German Chancellor’s prior visit to Nigeria in October. During Chancellor Scholz’s visit, President Tinubu advocated for increased German investments in various sectors of Nigeria’s economy, recognizing the nation as Germany’s second largest trading partner in Africa.

Notably, Nigeria and Germany have witnessed a steady rise in bilateral trade volume, surging from two to three billion Euros between 2021 and 2022. This visit aims to build upon these positive economic relations and explore further avenues for collaboration.

Following the conclusion of the G-20 CwA Conference, President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria, continuing his efforts to attract foreign direct investment and strengthen Nigeria’s economic standing on the global stage. This diplomatic endeavor comes after the president’s recent attendance at Guinea-Bissau’s Independence anniversary, following a prior visit to Saudi Arabia, underscoring Nigeria’s active participation in international relations and global affairs.
