Sunday Igboho, a prominent figure in the Yoruba nation movement, has denounced the recent invasion of the Oyo state secretariat by individuals claiming allegiance to the Oodua nation.

Security officers apprehended 16 gunmen suspected to be members of the group on Saturday after they forcefully entered the state government secretariat in Agodi.

Clad in military camouflage, the gunmen attempted to take control of the premises but were swiftly subdued by security personnel.

According to reports, the intruders replaced the Nigerian national flag with the “Oodua nation flag” before security officials intervened. Some of the gunmen were apprehended at the scene, while others fled into nearby bushes and forests.

Reacting to the incident, Sunday Igboho, through his media aide Olayemi Koiki, distanced himself from the group’s actions, stating that he was unaware of their motives or affiliation.

“I know nothing about it, and I don’t know those behind it. If we want to organize a rally or any Yoruba nation activity, we usually make an announcement beforehand,” Igboho clarified. “Any person that said he is agitating for Yoruba nation and is going to attack government facilities, that person or group is on his own. I don’t know anything about it.”
