Apple Unveils “Apple Intelligence” and Partners with OpenAI Despite Elon Musk’s Warning

Apple has announced its partnership with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. The partnership will bring a new suite of AI features called “Apple Intelligence” to Apple devices, despite warnings from Elon Musk about the potential threat to data security.

Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015, has threatened to ban Apple devices at his companies, citing concerns about the handling of user data.

However, Apple has emphasized that privacy safeguards have been built into Apple Intelligence to protect user data. The system will enable users to create their own emojis, generate summaries of emails, and enhance Siri with ChatGPT. Apple executives stressed that the system puts powerful generative models at the core of Apple devices, drawing on personal context to provide relevant intelligence while protecting privacy at every step.

The announcement comes after months of pressure on Apple to catch up with its rivals in the AI race. Microsoft and Google have already rolled out AI-powered products, and Apple’s share price has suffered as a result. Despite Musk’s warnings, Apple is moving forward with the partnership, which is expected to close the gap with its competitors in the AI race.

The partnership with OpenAI is not exclusive, and Apple is expected to announce support for other AI models in the future. Apple’s emphasis on privacy and security may help to alleviate concerns about the use of AI in its products, despite Musk’s warnings.
