ASUU Pays Emotional Tribute to Slain Deputy VC, Retirees

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) honored 20 retired lecturers of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, including the late Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Yusuf Sa’idu, who was killed by bandits.

The ceremony was marked by tears and tributes, with ASUU national president, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, praising the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawal Bilbis, for protecting the university’s ideals.

The event also saw the presentation of awards to the retirees, with the guest lecturer, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, emphasizing the importance of celebrating academic achievements.

Okay.ng had reported that Professor Yusuf Saidu, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Development at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), was fatally shot while traveling to Kaduna State on official duty.

The incident occurred around Kucheri in Zamfara State when Professor Saidu’s vehicle, an official blue-colored Hilux, was mistaken for a police vehicle by bandits being chased by soldiers.
