Prominent Islamic clerics, Sheikh Muhammad Kabir Haruna Gombe and Sheikh Sani Yahaya-Jingir, have urged young Nigerians to prioritize peace and avoid participating in planned protests against the government.

The protests, mobilized on social media, aim to address issues like hunger, fuel subsidy removal, electricity tariff hikes, and insecurity.

Sheikh Gombe emphasized the importance of dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution, citing qur’anic and biblical principles that advocate for peaceful responses to challenges.

Sheikh Jingir, National Chairman of the Council of Ulama of JIBWIS, cautioned that Islam prohibits actions leading to chaos and calamity, and instead advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the plight of Nigerians by reinstating fuel subsidy to alleviate hardship.

The clerics’ appeal comes as Nigerians face economic and security challenges, with some individuals calling for protests to demand government action.
