The Presidency has dismissed claims by the President of the Nigeria Labor Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero , that President Bola Tinubu betrayed the leaders of the union by increasing the price of the petrol pump, against the agreement reached during the meeting of the minimum wage with him.

The NLC chairman had on Tuesday evening accused President Tinubu of betraying the Labor Party, saying the workers accepted the national minimum wage of N70,000 instead of their demand of N250,000 based on an agreement that the price of the PMS pump will not increase. However, reacting to Ajaero ‘s claims, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz , on his verified X handle, @Abdulfagge, said he was present at the last two meetings where President Tinubu met with union leaders.

He emphasized that there was no offer in exchange for a fuel price increase. He described Ajaero ‘s statements as “dirty politics” aimed at manipulating the emotions of Nigerians.

Abdulaziz stated that he personally participated in both meetings and that at no time was any offer made in exchange for an increase in the price of fuel. According to him, ” I attended the two meetings that the President @officialABAT had with the Labor leaders on the minimum wage. In neither of these meetings was an offer made in exchange for an increase in the price of fuel. Ajaero is once again playing his dirty politics on the emotions of Nigerians, Abdulaziz said.

The NLC allegation of betrayal is as a result of the recent increase in the pump price of petrol from N617 per liter to N897 by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL.
